Spicy grainy mustard in a jar

This mustard packs a punch! It's is the perfect condiment for your sandwich and goes great with lefse and pressed pork.

Prep Time: 10 min

Additional: 3 day

Yield: 1/2 cup

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp mustard seeds

  • 2 tbsp mustard powder

  • 1 1/2 tbsp vinegar

  • 1/2 tbsp liquid

  • 3/4 tsp salt

Directions

  1. Using a mortar and pestle, grind the mustard seeds to desired coarseness. Then combine all the ingredients in a bowl and stir together. Transfer to a jar with a lid and let sit in the fridge for 3 days.

Zhuzh it up!

  • Change up the liquid and the vinegar to change the flavour of the mustard. For example use a white wine for the liquid & a white wine vinegar. Or beer for the liquid and an apple cider vinegar.

  • To adjust the spice level, add less mustard seeds and more mustard powder for a milder flavour. Just keep the total amount of 'mustard stuff' at 4 tbsp.
