Elevate your table snacks by adding the delicious flavour of smoke to them. This classic savoury & salty cereal snack mix is taken to the next level with the addition of smoke & pairs great with a Negroni.

Prep Time: 10 min

Cook & Cool time: 15 min

Smoke Time: 10 min

Yield: 3 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 cup corn Chex

  • 1 cup rice Chex

  • 1/2 cup mixed nuts

  • 1/2 cup pretzel sticks

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1/2 tsp smoked salt

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

Directions

  1. In a large, mirowave safe bowl, combine the chex, nuts and pretzel sticks. Set aside.

  2. In a small, microwave safe bowl, melt the butter. Then mix in the salt, garlic and onion powder.

  3. Pour the melted butter mixture over the cereal mix and stir until everything is evenly coated in butter.

  4. Microwave the mixture on high for 3-4 minutes, stopping to stir every 2 minutes.

  5. Remove from the bowl and spread on a baking sheet to cool.

  6. Once cooled, transfer to a large mason jar and place the smoking saucer on top. Add your favorite flavour of smoking chips to the saucer and burn to add smoke to the jar.

  7. Remove the saucer and seal the jar, trapping the smoke inside with the cereal mix.

  8. Allow the cereal to sit in the smoke for ~10 min before serving.

  9. Transfer the smoked cereal to a non-smoked container for storage.

Zhuzh it up!

  • You can also make this in your oven. Pre-heat to 250F, bake the butter coated mixture for 1hr, stirring every 15 min.

  • Make extra, just double or triple the above recipe - we know one batch is not enough!
