The perfect sweet, crunchy treat that goes great with couches, blankets and movies. Add food colouring paste and dress it up for any occasion!
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook time: 20 min
Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients
7-8 cups, plain popped popcorn
3/4 cup brown sugar
6 tbsp butter
3 tbsp corn syrup
1/8 tsp colouring paste (optional)
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp vanila
Directions
In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and optional colouring paste. Heat over medium, stirring continuously, until butter is melted and the mixture begins to boil.
Allow the syrup mixture boil for 5 min, without stirring, over medium heat.
Pre-heat oven to 300F
Pop your popcorn into a large bowl and set aside.
Remove syrup from heat and immediately stir in baking soda and vanilla.
Pour the syrupy mixture from your pot over the popcorn in the large bowl. Mix together the popcorn and syrup, using a rubber spatula, until popcorn is fully coated with the syrup.
Transfer the coated popcorn to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper & spread the popcorn out into a single layer.
Bake in 300F oven for 12 min. Remove and stir to separate the popcorn kernels. Bake for a further 5 min.
Remove from oven to a heat proof surface and allow the popcorn to cool on the baking sheet. As it cools, separate the popcorn that have stuck together by hand.
Once cooled, store in a sealed container for up to a week. Yeah right, you're going to eat it all right away!
Zhuzh it up!
I like making two batches in two different colours for festivities like black and orange for halloween.
Add 1 cup of walnuts or pecans to the popcorn before you add the syrup for a great trail mix addition.
